For those of you who don't know what's going on, here's the jist of it. DA ran a 3day or so contest for a poster design for dA at AX this year, to represent. the winning entry, was not only super cliched anime, it was badly traced/copied (see below). So dA's winner was traced art (of a popular series i'm told, and i'm sure that with all the submissions and art coming in, it may be fair to blame them for the blatant misconduct of the winning artist) from one of the largest anime conventions on the west coast. way to represent! WOOT! oh the sweet irony!

edit: i guess heat of the moment makes me a crass writer. let me rephrase a little bit to placate y'all before you jump down my throat.

i am disappointed in the winning entry, not so much at the artist, but at dA for choosing it. now many of you say that it's for the marketbility of the poster, something that's eye catching and easy to read/see, that would be "generic" anime so not to step on any toes, and for design, etc.

i see it as this. dA is a large art community. there has to be some sort of standard, especially when they're using the winning entry to advertise it as an art community at an anime convention. (now if i were to see that, i would think less of wanting to join that community.)

now i am entitled to what i think of the art. as you are entitled to think what you may of it. personally, it's ugly and i'm kind of scared of it (and yes i know not everyone makes pretty art) and even with those elements that were so kindly pointed out to me, there were, by far, better entries. nothing says that you disregard art fundamentals.

i do like the red and black. legibility on some of the text is a bit hard to read, kerning and alignment could use some work.
